Welcome to the
Quaker G.O.P.
(Guerrilla Outreach Project)

What's the Quaker G.O.P.?

It is a strictly unofficial effort to promote vigorous, even assertive efforts to make known the presence and message of Quakerism, particularly the liberal unprogrammed variety. This page was posted by Chuck Fager; but the hope is that it will soon become a networking tool for like-minded Friends in many places.

For too long, too many of us and our meetings have acted as if we were really part of --

   The Secret Society of Friends
   (Shhhhh! Someone might notice us!)

-- hiding not only our lamp under a bushel, but even covering up the bushel itself.  There are many excuses for this diffidence, ranging from the mock-noble ("Friends do not [stoop to] proselytize") to the frankly snobby -- and implicity racist/classist -- ("But the wrong kind of people might come...").

The QUAKER G.O.P. will not waste time debating such unbecoming and fearful rationalizations.  We want to move past discussion, to share ideas and develop projects to get on with the task.

If thee is ready to join in, Friend, send in an e-mail, and let's start talking about what we've already done, what else to do, and how to do it.  Some efforts will be individual, others cooperative.  We will need to raise our own funds; along the way, an active Quaker G.O.P. may upset a few applecarts, gore a few oxen and grind up some sacred cows; but as a wise person said, these make the best hamburger.

As we hear about good ideas and projects, we'll add details about them to this page. Photos (as JPEG files) are welcome too.
